The final Saab models left at the brand’s Swedish production headquarters are set to go under the hammer at auction this month.

The Swedish brand, famous for cars such as the 9-5 and 9-3, collapsed in 2012 before being acquired by NEVS. Later taken over by the Chinese real estate conglomerate Evergrande, NEVS focused on producing autonomous and electric cars out of Saab’s Trollhattan facility.

However, Evergrande’s collapse in 2021 saw widespread lay-offs, and though it seemed that NEVS would be launching a new electric vehicle imminently, this auction suggests that it is now the end of the road for any future cars. It follows on from a sale by NEVS of various parts from the plant in September 2025.

The new auction will consist of eight cars with seven examples of Saab’s last-generation 9-3 being joined by a Hengchi 5, which was produced by Evergrande.

Of those 9-3 cars, one is an electric model built in China, while another is a special version used to collect road data during the firm’s development of autonomous cars. Another model uses in-wheel electric motors – rather than axle-mounted alternatives – while the final 9-3 has a range-extender setup, utilising a compact petrol engine to extend the range of the electric battery and motors.

Auctioned via the Nordic site Klaravik, the Saab auction begins on May 21 and will finish at a final event at the Trollhattan site on May 30. On that final date, the public will be permitted to visit the site to see the cars before they head off to their new homes. All cars are being sold without a reserve price and a starting bid of 0 SEK.
