It is often said that in life, nothing is certain except death and taxes, however, we could probably include LRT disruptions as well as the non-maintenance of facilities such as escalators and lifts into the list.
Recently, in his first few days as Transport Minister, Anthony Loke in an announcement, revealed that a total of 46 escalators and 664 lights at the LRT stations are not functioning.
This comes as absolutely no surprise as public transport users have probably already accepted that we’d probably never see the day when such facilities would actually be running, despite the fact that Rapid Rail had previously announced that repair works on malfunctioning escalators and lifts at LRT and MRT stations are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Recently, a couple of videos and posts on Twitter and TikTok made rounds on the platforms as netizens expressed their shock that the facilities are finally getting repaired.
“Spare parts appeared within a week. The broken escalators before this? No action taken for 10 months straight.”
Meanwhile, some netizens jokingly pointed out that the fast escalator repairs were done because of Anthony Loke’s appointment as the Transport Minister.
“Are they scared of losing their positions? Now suddenly they’re rushing (to fix it) after Loke’s return?”
“See how fast things move when you have a fantastic minister,” said another user.
