Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has reiterated that Budget 2023 will continue to focus on strengthening Malaysia’s economic recovery and resilience, as well as facilitating structural reforms that boost the wellbeing of Keluarga Malaysia.
“Even though Budget 2023 will only be tabled in the fourth quarter of this year, we have already started the engagement process to collate feedback from the people. The government is always committed to continuing to increase transparency in the preparation of the budget and encourage the participation of the public,” the minister said.
Tengku Zafrul also clarified that the process of developing the upcoming national budget has already begun with the issuance of a pre-Budget statement back in June 2022. It was published to ensure that the public was aware of the government’s priorities for Budget 2023.

On top of that, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) had also invited various entities – including industry associations, business chambers, and non-governmental organisations – to submit proposals to be considered for the national budget. The public, too, will be allowed to share their opinions when the MoF issues a Public Consultation Paper.
“Subsequently, I and my deputies will go to all states for dialogues and see for ourselves the condition and needs of the people to get feedback directly, for instance, like in the previous year, the Finance Ministry will hold Budget Tour Programme to meet the people,” Tengku Zafrul explained.
Malaysia’s national budget for 2023 is expected to be tabled in the Parliament on 28 October this year.
