Kota Kinabalu: Two shop owners were fined a total of RM15,000 by the Sessions Court here for allowing illegal immigrants to stay in their respective premises.

Wong Ka Vui, 26, and Katty Mardeka, 22, who appeared separately before Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim, pleaded guilty to the charges against them.

Wong was found permitting two undocumented Filipinas to be in Kedai Sopi Silver Star in Kolombong, Inanam, on Nov 15, 2023, at 12pm.

Wong was fined RM5,000 or 60 days for each illegal immigrant.

She was fined RM5,000 or 60 days jail.

Each charge under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 carries a jail term of up to a year, or a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000, or both, for each illegal immigrant found.

Prosecuting Officer Chin Tze Mee from the Immigration Department appeared for the prosecution.
