Fiorentina chief Daniele Prade admits they had big plans for Lucas Torreira.
The Uruguay midfielder spent last season on-loan with the Viola, but a permanent deal with Arsenal couldn't be struck.
Prade lamented: "It was a very advantageous proposal for the player but there was a clear closure with the agent and with him.
"The last month and a half we were also told another very important thing, that (Sofyan) Amrabat played great.
"He gave us guarantees and also made it clear to the coach that we could use him in the role even in a more congenial way for a very technical forward team like ours."
