A major fire broke out at a mattress factory at Mandour village near Ambala City on Monday.

No casualties were reported.

A column of thick black smoke rising up from the site was visible from a distance.

Mattresses and other inflammable items helped spread the fire quickly and engulf a large portion of the factory.

Fire Department personnel Satish said seven fire tenders were pressed into service.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jitender Jindal said the situation was under control and the fire was largely contained.

Preliminary investigations suggested that an electrical short circuit may have sparked the fire.

Energy Minister Anil Vij, who is MLA from Ambala Cantt, also visited the site.
