Two firefighters sustained burn injuries while battling a fire that broke out at the Tata Communications office opposite Savitri Cinema in Greater Kailash-I, South Delhi, during the wee hours of Friday, officials said.

According to the Delhi Fire Service, a call regarding the blaze was received at around 2:47 am. An initial response comprising three water tenders, two water bowsers, one quick response vehicle, one multipurpose vehicle and one breathing apparatus support unit was dispatched to the spot.

As firefighting operations progressed, a “Make-4” message was issued at 3:01 am, prompting the reinforcement of resources. The total deployment was increased to 10 fire units, including four water tenders, four water bowsers, one quick response vehicle, one multipurpose vehicle and one breathing apparatus support unit. An additional water tender was requisitioned at 3:25 am.

During the operation Fire Operators Sandeep and Suresh, both posted at the Mathura Road Fire Station, suffered burn injuroies to their hands. They were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment under the supervision of Station Officer Rakesh.

The fire was brought under control at around 5:30 am, and a “Stop” message was issued at 7:05 am after firefighting and cooling operations were completed.

Preliminary information indicates that fire originated in a battery room on the third floor of the Tata Communications office building. Approximately 200 square feet of area was affected.

The building comprises a ground floor and five upper floors.

Cooling operations continued after the fire was extinguished. Further details are awaited.
