Fire chief confirms how pilot of crashed Amazon cargo plane in Miami was rescued

  • Five people have died and at least five others were injured after an Amazon Air cargo plane overshot the runway at Miami International Airport on 6 September.
  • The Boeing 767-300, operated by 21 Air from Puerto Rico, struck several vehicles near an Amazon warehouse parking lot before bursting into flames.
  • Technical rescue teams extracted trapped individuals from damaged vehicles and rescued the pilot and co-pilot from the burning aircraft.
  • Emergency responders were forced to flood the plane's active left engine to disable it while conducting the rescue effort.
  • The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the crash, with both Amazon and 21 Air pledging full co-operation.
