Kota Kinabalu: A fishing vessel was destroyed after it caught fire in waters off the Safma Market, here, early Saturday morning.

The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call via MERS999 at 3.56am.

A team from the Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched, arriving at the scene in just two minutes, approximately 2km from their station.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation,” a spokesperson said.

A total of nine personnel were deployed, backed by one Fire Rescue Tender unit and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle.

No injuries or fatalities were reported in the operation supported by five personnel from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and two from the Royal Malaysian Police.
