Black smoke rose from a huge fire yards away from Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium hours before their match against Preston was due to kick off on Wednesday, 6 March.
The blaze was affecting industrial units near the football stadium, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire Service said.
Eighteen fire engines attended the scene.
People nearby were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke.
Southampton are understood to be in touch with the EFL regarding the fire.
