As part of the ongoing fire safety week, a mock fire drill and poster-making competition were held today at Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Memorial Civil Hospital. The initiatives were conducted under the expert supervision of Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Garg and Medical Superintendent Dr Namita Ghai.
The mock drill was designed to equip health officials and hospital staff with the necessary skills to manage fire-related emergencies. Participants received practical training on rapid response — sounding emergency alarms effectively, evacuation protocols — safely clearing wards and departments, equipment handling — proper techniques for tackling various types of fire outbreaks.
To further spread the message of fire safety, the Health Department organised a poster-making competition for local nursing students. The creative works were displayed throughout the hospital wards to educate patients and visitors.
The participants were recognized for their creativity and message clarity. Rajdeep Kaur and Vysree of Guru Nanak Nursing Training Institute, and Asmik Preet Kaur of Bharat Nursing College won first position in the poster making competition. The second spot was bagged by Shilpa Bhanot of LLR College, and Sandeep Kaur and Janvi Saini of Bharat Nursing College.
The winning students were honoured at a ceremony led by Dr Namita Ghai, alongside Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Jaswinder Singh, SMO (Gynae) Dr Varinder Kaur Thind, Dr Harveen Kaur, AHA Dr Neha and Matron Jasvir Kaur.
The event concluded with a commitment from hospital leadership to maintain rigorous safety standards and ensure all staff members remain emergency-ready year-round.
