Fire crews including hazardous materials experts have been deployed to the Pentagon, the headquarters of the US Department of Defense, after a possible air quality problem was detected, the fire service in Arlington near Washington said on the platform X on Thursday.

A Pentagon spokesman said on X that people inside the building should remain at their workstations.

Systems had indicated a problem with air quality, he said, adding that it was a precautionary measure until the extent of the problem had been established.
