In view of the upcoming Panchayati Raj Elections, the district administration of Lahaul and Spiti has imposed strict restrictions on the possession and movement of weapons to ensure the peaceful, fair and orderly conduct of the electoral process.

District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Kiran Badhana issued the directive specifically for the Lahaul Development Block. The order stated that maintaining law and order during the election period was of utmost importance and, therefore, no individual — except personnel from law enforcement agencies — would be permitted to carry or possess firearms or any other lethal weapons within the limits of the block during the election process.

According to the administration, all licensed weapon holders have been directed to immediately deposit their firearms and ammunition at the nearest police station or with authorised arms dealers.

The district administration said the preventive measure had been taken to avoid any untoward incidents and maintain peace and public order during the elections.

The order will remain in force till the completion of the Panchayati Raj Elections process. The administration has appealed to the public to strictly comply with the directions and cooperate in ensuring the smooth and peaceful conduct of elections across the district.

Officials said the move was part of broader security arrangements being implemented across the district.
