The Sessions Court has rescheduled the case of a married couple accused of supplying firearms to an Israeli man to July 11.
The accused, Sharifah Faraha Syed Husin, 41, and Abdul Azim Mohd Yasin, 43, arrived at the court separately at 9:30 am and 9:50 am.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Fazeedah Faik informed the court that the prosecution is still preparing documents to hand over to the defense. Fazeedah also mentioned receiving a representation from Sharifah Faraha's defense on June 2, which is currently under review.
Sharifah Faraha's lawyer, Mohamad Isa Mohamad Basir, submitted two requests: one for her to receive medical treatment outside the prison and another to stop the prison wardens from providing false information about her case.
"Two weeks ago, my client fainted in the Kajang Women’s Prison. Since then, she has only received basic treatment and has been experiencing head pain. She needs an X-ray," Mohamad Isa said. "We also understand that the wardens have been giving false information and pressuring her, which needs to stop."
He added that they are trying to get Sharifah's medical records from Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor, where she was previously treated for depression and anxiety.
Judge Ahmad Faizadh Yahya suggested that these issues be handled administratively by the prison.
Lawyer Ethan Tan, representing Abdul Azim, also attended the proceedings.
On April 8, Sharifah Faraha pleaded not guilty to possessing a CZ 75 P-01 CAL.9 Luger pistol at a house in Kampung Bukit Belimbing, Kuala Selangor, on March 29. She is charged under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which could result in a maximum prison term of 14 years and at least six strokes of the cane if convicted.
Abdul Azim is charged under Section 9 of the same act for allegedly being aware of the firearm's presence at the same time and place. If convicted, he faces similar penalties.
The case will continue on July 11, as both the prosecution and defense prepare for the next court date.
