A firefighter pleads not guilty to negligent driving that seriously injured a four-year-old girl at a chalet parking area in Bachok.

BACHOK: A firefighter pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here today to a charge of negligent driving that allegedly resulted in serious injuries to a four-year-old girl early this year.

Mohammad Shuhaili Shuib, 46, entered the plea before Magistrate Fakhrul Razzi Abd Hamid.

He was charged with negligently driving a Toyota Innova multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and hitting the girl at the parking area of Sri Chalet Nipah, causing serious injuries to the child, at about 10.45 am on Jan 3 this year.

The charge was framed under Section 338 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.

The court allowed Mohammad Shuhaili bail of RM2,500 with one surety and fixed Aug 3 for mention and submission of documents.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aiman ​​Syahmi Yazid, while lawyer Muhammad Habil Zainal Abidin from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) represented the accused.
