A 24-year-old woman was rescued by firefighters after being stranded on a sand bar at Balok Beach in Kuantan due to a rising tide

KUANTAN: A 24-year-old woman was rescued by firefighters after becoming stranded on a sand bar at Balok Beach here.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Mohd Salahuddin Isa said nine firefighters from the Gebeng station were deployed after receiving an emergency call at 8.37 am.

“The woman had gone to a sand bar about 100 metres from the shoreline and was unaware that the tide was rising, which left her stranded,” he said in a statement.

He advised the public to avoid staying on sand bars during tidal changes and to always be aware of tide schedules.

“Sand bars may look safe during low tide but can quickly become submerged as the tide rises,” he said.

The public is advised to avoid such high-risk areas when alone and to ensure they are accompanied by others.
