A hillside forest fire near Desaminium Rimba Apartments in Seri Kembangan reignited tonight, prompting firefighters to battle the blaze amid difficult access
KUALA LUMPUR: A forest fire on a hillside near the Desaminium Rimba Apartments in Seri Kembangan, which had been extinguished earlier this afternoon, has reportedly reignited, yesterday.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (Operations) Ashrul Riezal Asbar said that the reignited fire was detected on a hillside area covering an estimated 0.09 hectares (ha).
He said his team is currently carrying out firefighting operations to ensure the fire does not spread to the nearby residential and housing areas.
“The incident involves a forest fire on a hillside, and containment and firefighting efforts are underway,” he said in a statement, yesterday.
However, he noted that the night operation faces difficulties due to the lack of an access route to the site, as well as darkness, which hampers the personnel’s firefighting efforts.
“A drone unit is also on-site to assist in monitoring the fire situation, and eight firefighters, along with a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle are involved in the operation,” he said.
He also said that they initially received a call regarding the forest fire at 3.03 pm, and the firefighters arrived at the scene at 3.12 pm.
“The fire in the evening affected a forest area of approximately two acres at the hilltop, and the blaze was reportedly extinguished at 6.30 pm. No casualties were reported in the incident,” he added.
