TAWAU: A woman suffered burns on the face and legs in an early morning fire which destroyed eight houses in Kampung Hidayat, Batu 4, Jalan Apas, here, Wednesday,

Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Jemishin Ujin said the 31-year-old was sent to Tawau Hospital.

He said the station received a distress call at 1.50am, following which a team of 20 firefighters were sent to the scene.

“On arrival, they found eight houses and four cars on fire. Swift action was taken to prevent the fire from spreading to 15 other nearby houses,” he said.

Read more According to Jemishin, the firefighters managed to control the fire at 3.43am and the operation ended at 7.24am.

He said the cause of the fire and the losses incurred are still under investigation.

Meanwhile, in KOTA KINABALU, a fire in Kampung Pasir Putih, Pulau Gaya, destroyed two stilt houses.

The Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 11.19am and dispatched a team to the scene.

Upon arrival at 12.05pm, the firefighters found two non-permanent stilt houses had been completely engulfed in flames.

Quick action by local villagers and members of the Lok Urai Volunteer Fire Brigade managed to extinguish the fire before the firefighters arrived.

The Fire and Rescue team led by Asama Saruddin conducted a thorough inspection of the area to ensure no further danger remained.

No casualties were reported.
