PENAMPANG: The marine police had seized RM756,600 worth of fireworks in a raid on unnumbered premises along Jalan Penampang-Papar Lama, here, on Wednesday.

Acting on intelligence under Op Taring Landai Khas, the Region 4 Marine Police discovered an illegal storage and distribution operation supplying fireworks to Kota Kinabalu and here.

Two local men, aged 31 and 50, were arrested after police found boxes of fireworks in a storage area without valid permits.

A lorry valued at RM75,000 was also seized, bringing the total confiscated items to RM831,600.

The suspects and seized items have been handed over to the Penampang Police Criminal Investigation Department for further action under the Explosives Act 1957.
