Kuala Lumpur: The government has urged authorities, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), to take firm action against the growing spread of fake news on fuel and electricity prices.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that, so far, the MCMC has identified 96 pieces of false content on social media related to the issue.

In a video message on Wednesday, he said the dissemination of such misinformation is occurring as the country faces extraordinary challenges arising from the global energy crisis, and could threaten stability as well as mislead the public.
