KUALA LUMPUR, July 4, 2024 – Malaysia's inaugural Carbon Neutral Computing Services (CNCS) Coffee Talk, held at the RuMa Hotel & Residence here, brought together some 50 key players to address the growing urgency of sustainable technology solutions.

The event, jointly organised by Hewlett-Packard (HP) and ICT Zone Asia Bhd, marked a significant milestone in Malaysia's commitment to environmental sustainability.

HP's business manager for Services, Greater Asia & India Markets Mohan Kumar unveiled how CNCS can empower businesses to achieve their sustainability goals by fully offsetting the carbon footprint of HP PCs throughout their entire lifecycle. This landmark initiative covers everything from manufacturing and assembly to transportation and end-of-life disposal.

Tommy Lim, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ICT Zone Asia Berhad, emphasised the critical role of environmental consciousness, social responsibility, and transparency in forging a sustainable brand. As the first Malaysian company to partner with HP on CNCS, ICT Zone is now offering HP's carbon-neutral PCs through their innovative DaaS 360 subscription model.

Hiro Chai, Director of Mitsusho Sdn Bhd, shed light on the pressing need for decarbonisation across industries, especially for publicly listed and mid-tier companies. With large-cap Public Limited Companies facing mandatory carbon emission reporting deadlines by December 31, 2024, the global shift towards decarbonisation, particularly in Europe and ASEAN, is gaining momentum.

The event's esteemed guest, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) Deputy Chief Secretary (Development) Datuk Nor Yahati Awang, reiterated the government's unwavering dedication to environmental preservation. While Malaysia's greenhouse gas emissions represent a mere 0.69 per cent of the global total, the nation is committed to significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

Datuk Nor Yahati emphasised that NRES is striving to strike a harmonious balance between economic progress and public well-being while pursuing the ambitious goal of net-zero GHG emissions. The ministry's strategic focus on initiatives like the Nationally Determined Contributions Roadmap and Long-term Low Emissions Development Strategies is paving the way for Malaysia's greener and more prosperous future.
