SHAH ALAM, March 26 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) has implemented the First-In-First-Out (FIFO) inventory policy to ensure that food supplies stored at the Selangor Food Warehouse (GMS) remain fresh and safe.

On Saturday (March 22), the state government launched GMS, located at the Tiong Nam Logistics Warehouse in Bandar Sultan Suleiman, Port Klang.

PKPS chief executive officer Datuk Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi said that FIFO ensures that products stored first are sold first, preventing food wastage or spoilage.

“We will not let old stock sit until it expires. Through the FIFO system, stocks are constantly refreshed and distributed through the Jualan Ehsan Rahmah programme,” he told the press at a PKPS Iftar event with the media yesterday.

Khairil also addressed concerns that stored rice may develop weevils or spoil, assuring that strict monitoring measures are in place.

“Frozen meat can last up to two years, but with our collaboration with Allana, stock rotation will be swift and efficient,” he said.

Selangor is the first state to establish a food warehouse like GMS, reinforcing carbohydrate and protein supply security, especially during unexpected emergencies.

Beyond meat and rice, PKPS plans to expand protein storage to include fish and chicken within the next six months.

However, Khairil noted that storage methods are still being studied to ensure product freshness.

He also thanked the press for their continued support of PKPS initiatives.

“I believe that with ongoing media support and outreach, PKPS efforts will reach the people and enhance public confidence,” Khairil said.
