First Lady leads final walkthrough of 48th Asean Summit opening

MANILA, Philippines — First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos led the final walkthrough for the opening of the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit and Related Meetings in Cebu.

“After months of planning and preparation, it was truly fulfilling to see everything coming together. From the venue setup to the cultural performances prepared for our guests every detail was thoughtfully arranged to give our sean guests a warm and meaningful Filipino experience,” Marcos said in a post on her social media accounts.

“Very grateful to everyone who workedbehind the scenes — the organizers, staff, performers and volunteers — whose hard work and heart made all of this possible,” she added.

With the theme “Navigating the Future Together,” the Summit will officially begin on May 8 with an opening ceremony at the newly constructed Mactan Expo located within Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City. Leaders will hold their meetings and working lunch there before proceeding to Shangri-La Mactan for the Retreat Session.

This will be followed by a press conference by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the International Media Center (IMC), while a gala dinner hosted by the first couple will cap the Summit.

Meanwhile, Senior Officials’ and Ministerial Preparatory Meetings have simultaneously opened last May 6 at the Dusit Thani Mactan and Shangri-La Mactan.

A Special Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit will also take place on the afternoon of May 7 at Shangri-La Mactan.
