- Dr Vincent Brown, formerly known as Dr Vincent Bajinya, 65, has become the first person in the UK to be charged with offences linked to the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
- The Islington resident faces seven charges, including conduct ancillary to genocide and six counts of conduct ancillary to murder as a crime against humanity.
- Prosecutors allege Dr Brown directed and incited acts of murder and genocide against the Tutsi population in Kigali in April 1994.
- The charges follow an extensive investigation by the Metropolitan Police War Crimes Team initiated in September 2019 following a request from Rwandan authorities.
- Dr Brown is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to face the charges.
