Kota Kinabalu: Sandakan Member of Parliament Vivian Wong Shir Yee, who was officially appointed as Chairman of the Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB), began duties by chairing a meeting with its members and officers here on Friday.
The meeting was to understand the operations and the problems faced by CVLB.
“I thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook for the trust given for this important task and being the first woman to chair Sabah CVLB.
“I promise to do my duties, especially in solving the backlog of license applications, which has existed for some time,” she said.

During the meeting, 220 new applications were received for various matters, with 186 approved.
Wong called on all CVLB members and officers to cooperate with her to serve the people of Sabah more efficiently and systematically.
She also proposed for Sabah CVLB to strive to be a platform for communication between the local government and commercial vehicle operators, institutions and related associations, as well as continue to hold dialogues with industry players and stakeholders.
She gave examples of holding dialogue sessions with relevant parties on installing Global Positioning System (GPS) in commercial vehicles as well as online CVLB services.
Wong also said Sabah CVLB needed to actively participate in plans to upgrade public transport, which the Transport Ministry is focusing on.
For starters, she said, the Stage Bus Transformation Programme (SBST) in Kota Kinabalu would be a good step towards modernising the Sabah public transport system.
“To implement the SBST party, CVLB Sabah has to work closely with the State Government and various federal agencies to make it a success.
“If this plan goes smoothly, it means we can use this success throughout Sabah and benefit more Sabahans, including in Sandakan,” she added.
