Kota Kinabalu: The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) has announce the registration of 10 contractors for the new category of electrical contractor: Electrical Contractor with Class PV (Grid-Connected) (ECCPV (GC)).

This new category, established by the Electricity Supply Enactment 2024, allows ECoS to effectively regulate the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems within Sabah.

By ensuring all installations are completed by qualified professionals, ECoS aims to guarantee the safety and reliable operation of these systems for users and solar asset owners in the state.

“ECoS extends its heartfelt congratulations to the pioneering individuals who have become the first batch of registered ECCPV (GC) contractors in Sabah,” expressed ECoS CEO, Datuk Ir. Abd Nasser Abd Wahid during the Licence Certificate Giving Ceremony to the ten contractor companies which have been carefully assessed and having the required qualifications and experiences.

“The Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic System For Self Consumption Programme In Sabah (Selco–PV Sabah) is a programme initiated by the ECoS to allow consumers in Sabah to install solar PV systems on their own premise for ‘self-consumption’.”

The Selco–PV programme allows consumers to generate their own electricity which in turn will lower their electricity bills from the utility, making them more self-reliant, and helps in reducing the use of fossil fuels, and to promote clean energy.

“We hope more consumers will participate in this programme as this initiative also helps to relieve the current shortage of generation capacity during the daytime”, urged Datuk Ir. Nasser.

He emphasised that ECoS will continue to increase renewable energy mix and identify new energy sources as well as technologies for the long term, in line with the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SE-Ramp 2040) which was launched last September.
