KUNAK: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a pump boat suspected of using explosives for fishing near Pulau Tabawan on Monday evening.
Lahad Datu Maritime Zone Director Maritime Commander Dzulfikhar Ali said the arrest was made around 4.30pm during Ops Pluto Timur 2/2023 and Ops Tiris 3.0.
Two men aboard the boat jumped into the sea and swam to shore upon noticing the patrol.
Authorities later found about 10kg of fish believed to have been caught using explosives.
The unregistered boat was towed to the Lahad Datu Fisheries Jetty for investigation under the Fisheries Act 1985.
