FISH unloading at government-run regional fish ports fell 22.02 percent in July, dragged down by sharp declines in General Santos and other major ports, latest data from the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) showed.
A total of 43,676.43 metric tons (MT) of fish were unloaded, down from 56,008.82 MT in July 2025.
The General Santos Fish Port Complex remained the country’s busiest PFDA port, accounting for nearly half of the total volume. Fish unloading, however, plunged 35.78 percent to 21,071.17 MT from 32,812.05 MT a year earlier.
The Navotas Fish Port Complex ranked second with 16,142.60 MT, down 7.6 percent from 17,482.70 MT last year.
Combined, General Santos and Navotas accounted for 85 percent of the fish unloaded at PFDA ports in July.
The Iloilo Fish Port Complex followed with 2,712.82 MT, a 3.04-percent decline from 2,797.87 MT a year ago.
On the other hand, several smaller facilities posted strong gains.
Fish unloading at the Lucena Fish Port Complex jumped 49.46 percent to 1,623.47 MT from 1,086.26 MT, while volume at the Bulan Fish Port Complex climbed 34.23 percent to 1,409.95 MT from 1,050.40 MT.
Davao registered the fastest growth among PFDA ports, with fish unloading surging 74.51 percent to 260.31 MT from 149.17 MT last year.
“This represented the largest volume increase compared to the previous year,” the PFDA said.
In contrast, the Zamboanga Fish Port Complex recorded a 26.64-percent decline to 450.28 MT from 613.76 MT a year earlier.
The Sual Fish Port, meanwhile, handled 5.85 MT of fish and other marine products during the month.
