FISH unloading at regional ports operated by the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) fell by 29.09 percent in August from a year earlier, as typhoons and changing weather disrupted fishing activity, the agency said on Tuesday.
The ports handled 32,943.15 metric tons (MT) of fish, down from 46,458.20 MT in August 2025. Seven of the eight ports recorded declines.
General Santos accounted for the largest volume at 15,296.16 MT, although this was down by 35.50 percent from 23,716.08 MT a year earlier.
Navotas followed with 12,682 MT, a drop of 21.77 percent from 16,211.08 MT.
Iloilo, the agency’s only regional fish port in the Visayas, handled 2,341.12 MT, down by 17.66 percent from 2,843.4 MT.
Unloading at Lucena fell by 38.62 percent to 1,075.59 MT from 1,752.3 MT.
Sual posted the steepest percentage decline at 65.74 percent, with just 3.19 MT unloaded.
Davao followed with a 60.98-percent decrease to 140.70 MT from 360.57 MT.
Bulan handled 585.15 MT, a decline of 32.03 percent.
Zamboanga was the only port to record an increase, with unloading rising by 16.28 percent to 819.25 MT from 704.55 MT.
The PFDA said its regional ports continued working to maintain an adequate supply of fish and seafood despite the weather disruptions.
