Kota Kinabalu: A 37-year-old fisherman was charged at the Sessions Court here Wednesday with raping his underage daughter.

The accused pleaded not guilty before Judge Elsie Primus to committing the crime against the 15-year-old in a house in a village in Kudat at 5.30pm on Jan 27, this year.

The charge under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between eight years and 30 years and whipping not less than 10 strokes.

The court set Sept 6 for pre-trial case management (PTCM) and ordered the unrepresented accused to be remanded further.

Meanwhile, an unemployed man charged with assaulting a woman with a knife would go on trial on March 1-2 next year.

Elsie set the trial date for Md Firdaus Arbi during PTCM of his case on Wednesday.

Firdaus, 30, maintained his innocence to the offence allegedly committed at 6.30pm on March 3, this year in a house at Kg Pasir Putih, Putatan.

The charge under Section 326 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years and fine and whipping on conviction.

Unrepresented Firdaus was ordered to be further remanded.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Tham Pou Jin prosecuted.

In another case, a 27-year-old woman was fined RM800 or one week jail by the Magistrate’s Court for having gambling paraphernalia.

Rosma Ruslan pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having two slips of illegal lottery tickets at 12.15pm on April 24 in front of a restaurant at Taman Indah Permai.

The court heard from the prosecution that Rosma was arrested by police who raided the place following information on illegal gambling activity.

The gambling paraphernalia was also seized from Rosma, said the prosecution.

Rosma was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act which carries a jail term of up to six months, or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.
