KOTA KINABALU: Some 150 B40 fishermen from Tanjung Aru, Sembulan, and Pulau Gaya received life jackets, signal lights, and other safety gear in a targeted initiative to address safety concerns.
Sponsored by Tanjung Aru Gagasan Rakyat committee member Dr Ritchie Jay Cheng, in collaboration with its division chief Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah, the donation aims to improve safety standards for small-scale fishermen, many of whom lacked basic equipment.
Ritchie emphasised the vital role of fishermen in Sabah’s economy and praised the establishment of the Sabah Blue Economy Council, led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, to advance sustainable marine sectors.
