Five dead, five injured as Amazon Air Cargo plane crashes on runway

FIVE people were killed and five others injured after an Amazon Air Cargo plane crashed while landing at Miami International Airport at around 2 pm on Sunday.

The Boeing 767-300 cargo plane, said to be from San Juan, Puerto Rico, failed to stop on the runway, skidded and hit several vehicles before coming to rest near a road outside the airport.

The plane, initially believed to be travelling at 209 km/h, burst into flames after the crash, sending thick black smoke visible for miles.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene as firefighters battled to extinguish the blaze and rescue victims.

Police confirmed five people died in the crash, while five others were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Several survivors were reported to have suffered critical injuries.

Cargo airline 21 Air operated the plane on behalf of Amazon Air.

Investigators have yet to determine what caused the plane to skid off the runway.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation. – September 7, 2026
