Five individuals have been detained to assist with the investigation into the death of their disabled male friend at a hotel swimming pool in Batu 3, Port Dickson. The incident occurred yesterday, and the local police are thoroughly examining the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Port Dickson police chief, Superintendent Aidi Sham Mohamed, reported that the detainees include two men and three women, all locals aged between 31 and 36. They were taken into custody at the Port Dickson district police headquarters and remanded for seven days starting today.

The police were first alerted to the incident when a report was filed at 7:48 am yesterday. The report detailed that the victim, a 38-year-old man with hemiplegia, drowned while swimming in the hotel pool. Despite immediate efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Superintendent Aidi Sham disclosed that the victim and his friends had traveled from Subang Jaya, Selangor, for a birthday celebration and had been staying at the hotel since last Thursday. The group was swimming in the pool around 2 am when they were noticed by hotel staff, who attempted to intervene and stop them.

An autopsy has confirmed that the cause of death was drowning, and the investigation is ongoing. Superintendent Aidi Sham also revealed that a background check on the five individuals showed that two of them have previous criminal and narcotics records. Additionally, an initial urine screening test indicated that all five tested positive for THC-type drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which pertains to murder. The police are working diligently to gather more information about the events leading up to the man's death. This incident underscores the importance of safety and supervision in hotel facilities, particularly during late-night hours. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward and assist with the investigation to ensure a thorough and just resolution.
