Johor police detain five individuals, aged 25 to 56, as investigations continue into upside down Malaysian flag displays across three locations.

JOHOR BAHRU: Five individuals have been detained to assist investigations into three cases involving the upside-down display of the Jalur Gemilang in Johor.

Johor deputy police chief DCP Hoo Chuan Huat said the cases were reported in Kulai, Pelangi Indah here and Iskandar Puteri.

He said those detained comprised two men aged 25 and 43 in Pelangi Indah, a 56-year-old man in Iskandar Puteri, and a 34-year-old man and 48-year-old woman in Kulai.

“Investigations are still ongoing and once completed, the investigation papers will be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers for further action,” he told a press conference at the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters here today.

Hoo also urged all parties, especially premises owners, to take responsibility by ensuring the Jalur Gemilang is displayed correctly, particularly when assigning such tasks to their workers, including foreign workers.

Previously, several images showing the Jalur Gemilang being displayed upside down went viral on social media in the state, prompting action by the authorities.

A commercial premises under the administration of the Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) was also temporarily closed after it was found to have displayed the Jalur Gemilang incorrectly.
