TUARAN: Five students from the Kota Kinabalu Mara Skills Institute lost their lives in a road accident along Jalan Sulaman at about 2.30pm on Friday.
The victims, all men in their early 20s, were travelling in a SUV that reportedly lost control, struck a divider, and collided head-on with a lorry heading uphill.
They were said to be on their way to a camping trip in Kota Belud, with a fellow student in another vehicle recalling that the SUV had suddenly fallen behind before the crash.
The 48-year-old lorry driver escaped unhurt, while police and health workers responded swiftly to the scene, with an official statement expected soon.
