EMERGENCY teams rescued four passengers from an express bus and the driver of a three-tonne lorry after a collision on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound near Rawang in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department’s Deputy Director of Operations, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, said authorities received an emergency call at 5.24 a.m., prompting a team from the Rawang Fire and Rescue Station to be dispatched to the scene.

"Our fire engines arrived at the location at 5.51 a.m. and found a collision involving a bus and a lorry. There were five victims trapped, including four bus passengers and one lorry driver," Ahmad Mukhlis said in a statement.

The express bus was carrying 42 passengers, including two drivers. Thirty-eight passengers managed to exit the vehicle safely.

"Four bus passengers were trapped, but three of them were successfully rescued, while one remains trapped at this time. The lorry driver has also been freed by the rescue team," he added.

Ahmad Mukhlis confirmed that the rescue operation was ongoing, with specialised equipment being used to extract the remaining passenger still trapped inside the bus. - January 11, 2026
