Five water projects in Ranau completed

Kota Kinabalu: The Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl (RCKK Pearl) recently launched their completed water projects at five villages in Ranau, namely Kg Kilanas Baru, Kg Kirokot, Kg Pinawantai, Kg Tarawas and Kg Narawang.

Due to the distance between these villages, the launchings were split into two days from June 26-27.

The project is under one of Rotary International’s area of focus - Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash).

It was in collaboration between Rotary Club (RC) Likas Bay of Kota Kinabalu, RC Changi from Singapore, RC Bandar Seri Begawan from Brunei, and Pertubuhan Komuniti Elite, Kuala Lumpur.

Among those present during the launching from RCKK Pearl were Club President Datuk Aminah Ambrose, Wash Project Chairperson Datuk Suzannah Liaw and Wash Project Treasurer and Secretary Catherine Liew.

Also present were Technical Expertise Past President Wong Chu Lai from RC Likas Bay and church representatives - a husband and wife team with Elder David and Sister Jody Reese.

The launching ceremony was also attended by Political Secretary, Yubidi Gompoyo, who represented Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister for Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr. Joachim Gunsalam.

Ranau Member of Parliament Datuk Jonathan Yasin and Village Development and Security Chief, Onit Sainin Hamid, who represented Datuk Abidin Madingkir,

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister as well as the representative of Ranau’s District Officer.

The first two villages to have their water supply system completed under Wash were Kg Kawiyan and Kg Manikulau in 2020, funded by Suria Capital Holdings Berhad. Kg Paka followed suit in August 2022 sponsored by Samling Group, while another village, Kg Nampasan Lama, was sponsored by the partners in collaboration with Rotary Clubs and Pertubuhan Komuniti Elite Kuala Lumpur.

To date, Wash has uplifted the lives of more than 3,209 village folks in nine villages, costing more than RM397,000.

Implementation of water supply system in Kg Monggis, Ranau is in progress and expected to be completed this month.
