Five women among MPAJ councillors taking oath of office

AMPANG JAYA, Jan 7 — A total of 24 members of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), including seven new appointees, took their oaths of office yesterday.

The oaths, which are effective from January 1 to December 31 this year, were read in front of council President Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim at Menara MPAJ, and included five women appointed to fill the positions.

He said a new female councillor, Julaihah Jamaludin, was also appointed as MPAJ’s Deputy Chairman.

“The experience that each council member has is expected to help in formulating policies for sustainable development on the level of international standards, in addition to working hand-in-hand in improving the quality of MPAJ’s services,” Mohd Fauzi said.

Previously, state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han announced a total of 272 councillors from 12 local authorities have been appointed for 2023, with 28 per cent or 76 of them women.

The appointment of all the council members is effective from January 1 for a period of one year.
