FIVE women who admitted to being involved in a fight at Melor Market last week were each fined RM1,000 by the Magistrates’ Court in Kota Bharu on Wednesday.

Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid imposed the sentence after Rozita Ramli, 47, her daughter Aleeya Maisara Hasbullah, 19, and her daughters-in-law Siti Nor Bakyah Abdullah, 19, and Siti Sara Suaini, 30, together with Siti Sara’s younger sister, Siti Mastura Suaini, 28, pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court also ordered that all five would be jailed for three months if they failed to pay the fine.

They were charged with committing the offence in front of Melor Market, a public place, at about 2.30pm on December 25, under Section 160 of the Penal Code. The provision carries a maximum penalty of six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Nadzir Abdullah, while all the accused were represented by National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Siti Atikah Abd Halim. - December 31, 2025
