KUALA LUMPUR – A five-year-old girl was rescued after allegedly being subjected to severe abuse by her mother, who has a history of drug use and multiple prior drug-related offences, at a home in Sentul on Friday.
Speaking to Scoop, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said that the case came to light following a police report lodged at 10:53 pm on the same day.
“As a result of the report, the child was immediately rescued, and her 21-year-old mother was taken into custody for investigation,” Fadil said when contacted.
The girl sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) for treatment.
Medical examinations revealed multiple bruises on her head, ears, eyes, body, arms, and legs. She also had a lost front tooth, cuts on both thighs, and chapped, bleeding lips.
Further investigations indicated that the child had allegedly been abused and tortured for two weeks.
She was reportedly born out of wedlock and does not have a birth certificate. The mother, who earns a living selling clothes online, has tested positive for drugs.
“The mother has a significant history of drug-related offences, which raises concerns about the environment the child was living in.
“She has been previously arrested multiple times for drug possession and abuse, which may have contributed to the risk faced by the child.”
The suspect has been remanded for six days from last Friday until January 8 for further investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. - December 5, 2026
