Brendan Rodgers was happy with an "outstanding" Leicester City performance in Sunday's 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle United.

Ricardo Pereira opened the scoring before Isaac Hayden was sent off for the visitors.

Jamie Vardy got himself a brace in quick succession after the interval, sandwiched in between an own goal from Paul Dummett.

Wilfried Ndidi capped off the victory in the last minute, and speaking after the game, Rodgers was delighted.

"It was an outstanding performance and result," he said. "We started the game very well, took the lead with a very good goal. So it was a good start for us. We looked a threat when we went forward.

"They went down to 10 men and that can sometimes work for or against you but I thought how the players dealt with that and managed the game was outstanding because you need to be able to press the game and work arguably even harder.

"The second half, the players showed a wonderful appetite to do that, everyone together defending forward, being aggressive and not giving Newcastle any time, because sometimes there are periods against 10 men when you can't play and have the ball.

"We pressed it so hard, we were hungry in the game and hungry for goals. A clean sheet, five really good goals. It's a really good day for us."
