Kuala Lumpur: A Thai military officer was reportedly restrained and tied to his seat after allegedly trying to open an aircraft door during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok on Aug 9.
According to the Bangkok Post, the man reportedly shouted and demanded that the plane land while it was cruising at about 32,000 feet.
Cabin crew managed to restrain him and secure him to his seat using cable ties.
The passenger was later identified as a lieutenant with Thailand’s Ministry of Defence.
The ministry said he had been experiencing stress related to personal matters and was receiving medical treatment.
The Thai Defence Ministry said officials intervened to protect other passengers and crew, while the man’s relatives were contacted.
He was later taken to Phramongkutklao Hospital for examination and treatment.
The flight left Kuala Lumpur International Airport at about 6.05pm and arrived at Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport at 7.02pm.
No injuries were reported, while the ministry said disciplinary action would be considered following an investigation.
