Flood evacuee numbers drop in Perak and Sarawak

Flood situation improves in Perak and Sarawak as evacuee numbers fall, with relief centres still housing affected families.

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees in Perak and Sarawak continued to decline this afternoon.

In Perak, only four people from one family remain at the Kampung Padang Tembak multipurpose hall in Hilir Perak.

This is down from 19 evacuees from five families reported this morning.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain and thunderstorms across all districts in Perak until 8 pm.

In Sarawak, the number of victims dipped slightly to 141 people from 65 families as of 4 pm.

All evacuees remain at three relief centres in the Miri district.

Twelve people from four families are sheltering at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Angus.

A further 121 people from 58 families are housed at SK Suai Niah.

The Red Crescent hall is accommodating four flood victims from two families.

It is also housing four family members relocated due to a landslide.
