KOTA KINABALU: Recurring floods in Kampung Rampayan are caused by silt buildup in Sungai Rampayan, said Assistant Minister Datuk Hendrus Anding.

He said the river is maintained under the Main Drainage Maintenance Package 5, with dredging works scheduled six times between 2021 and 2026.

So far, six operations have been carried out over an 800-metre stretch, each costing RM36,400.

"The Ministry will conduct a focused study to find long-term solutions," he told the State Assembly in response to Darau assemblyman Azhar Matussin.
