
BEAUFORT: A total of 102 people from 36 families have been evacuated to the temporary relief centre at Dewan Selagon here after their homes were flooded.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the centre houses a total of 15 men and 32 women, while the rest are 35 boys and 20 girls.
The relief centre has been open since 4pm on Friday due to flash floods following continuous rain for five days in the area.
“Monitoring and rescue operations are ongoing at the hotspot locations in the district,” it said in a statement.

He said the Beaufort District Disaster Operations Room had been activated as a precautionary measure after the water in the Padas River water breached the danger level of 9.06 metres at 1pm on Friday.
“The three villages are located near the Padas River and the affected residents have to be evacuated as the rising river water overflowed their land,” he added.
He advised resident, especially those living along the Padas River, to be always on the alert and be ready to be evacuated in the event of flood.
