KUANTAN: The Pahang Civil Defence Force (APM), in its capacity as State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, has set up a collection centre at its headquarters here for the public to donate items needed by flood victims.
State APM Director, Col (PA) Che Adam A Rahman said the collection centre is to facilitate such donations from the public and to provide much-needed items to the flood evacuees.
“The floods in Pahang are under control but in Terengganu and Kelantan, it is a major challenge. Therefore, we have set up a collection centre where organisations or private companies and any interested party can donate items to help out the East Coast flood victims.
“Companies located outside these affected states can also do so and APM will coordinate everything systematically as we have sufficient distribution logistics,“ he told reporters at the APM Pahang Headquarters, Jalan Beserah here today.
The suggested items are dry and canned food, beverages, sanitary napkins, disposable nappies, school uniforms, stationery, ‘telekung’ (head scarves), baby formula, towels and life jackets.
“If people want to gather the items at a community level, we can also pick up and transport the donations to the collection centre.
“However, we are not accepting used clothes because previously we had to sort and discard a lot. So now we prioritise essential items,“ said Che Adam.
He said children’s life jackets, which are essential during rescue operations, are still in short supply.
Those wishing to donate can contact APM Pahang at 013-9384991 (Capt. Zaubidah) or 019-9093694 (Lt. Norisman).–Bernama
