Floods force over 10,000 into shelters across three states

Pahang records the highest number of flood victims with more than 10,000 people evacuated as river levels rise in several states.

KUANTAN: The number of flood victims evacuated to temporary relief centres (PPS) has risen in Pahang, Johor, and Kelantan this afternoon.

Pahang registered the highest number with 10,956 people from 3,635 families now sheltered at 78 PPS.

This is an increase from 8,226 people this morning, with Kuantan district housing the majority of victims.

In Johor, the number of victims rose slightly to 356 people across three operational PPS in the Mersing district.

Three rivers in Segamat and Batu Pahat are at warning levels.

The flood situation in Kelantan’s Gua Musang district has also worsened, with 137 people now evacuated compared to just 16 this morning.

Several major rivers in the state are at alert and warning levels.

Meanwhile, the number of victims in Terengganu dropped slightly to 902 people this afternoon.

Hulu Terengganu is the latest district affected, with the Sungai Besut station recording water levels above the danger mark.
