All 68 flood evacuees from 24 families in Besut have returned home as waters fully receded, with authorities warning of more heavy rain ahead.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Flooding in Terengganu has fully receded, allowing all 68 evacuees from 24 families in Besut to return home.

The victims had been temporarily housed at the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Besut.

Terengganu Malaysian Civil Defence Force director Colonel Mohd Zul Khairi Shamsuddin urged the public to remain vigilant as floods can occur at any time.

“We have received warnings from the Malaysian Meteorological Department about the next phase of heavy rain, which began yesterday,” he said.

“Heavy rain frequently occurs in the afternoons and late at night,” he told Bernama today.

Mohd Zul Khairi advised residents in flood-prone areas to be ready to move to relief centres if threatened by rising waters.
