Floods: No change in four states, improvement in Perak

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 — While there is no change in the flood situation in Pahang, Terengganu, Johor, and Kelantan, things are improving in Perak with a reduced number of flood victims.

In Pahang, the number of victims placed at the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sinar Mutiara in Sungai Miang, Pekan, remained at 141 this evening.

In Terengganu, 37 people from 10 families are still housed at SK Atas Tol in Kuala Terengganu, making it the only PPS operating in the state.

In Johor, the number of flood victims remained at 91 as of 8pm, with three PPS still open in Segamat housing 21 families and one PPS in Mersing housing three families.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) of Johor said in a statement that the PPS in Segamat were the Kampung Batu Badak Community Hall, Kampung Kuala Paya Community Hall and Kampung Tasek Community Hall while the one in Mersing was Sekolah Agama Pangkalan Batu.

In Kelantan, a total of 2,019 evacuees from 637 families in Pasir Mas are still housed at seven PPS tonight, the same as this afternoon.

The SDMC said a total of 712 people are housed at SK Tok Deh, followed by SK Kedai Tanjong (47), SK Gual Periok (544), Masjid Mukim Padang Licin (69), PPS Putat Tujoh (157), SK Kubang Kual (256) and SK Sri Kiambang (234).

In Perak, the number of flood victims dropped to 92 people from 22 families tonight compared to 104 people from 25 families as of 2pm earlier today.

All victims have been placed at the PPS in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abd Rahman Talib (SMART) in Hilir Perak; SK Padang Serai in Manjung; and the Kampung Tebing Tinggi Community Hall in Kampar.

The SDMC secretariat said the PPS at the Kampung Tersusun Teluk Memali Community Hall in Perak Tengah was closed at 2.30pm.
