SOOK: The Sook District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) on Wednesday declared the opening of a temporary evacuation centre (PPS) in the district.

District Officer Caroline Benjamin Jiungan, who is also Sook JPBD chairperson, said in a statement that the PPS at Dewan SLDB Galit Dana was opened as early as 4.30am on Wednesday to accommodate flood victims.

She said the centre was activated following inspections which found affected areas and homes of disaster victims unsafe for occupancy.

In Kemabong, a PPS was also opened at Dewan Ontoros Kemabong, housing three families comprising 18 people from Kampung Sugiang Lama.

According to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) State Operations Centre duty officer, an emergency call was received at 9.51pm on Tuesday through the station line and all 18 victims were successfully evacuated from their homes.
